Krav Maga

JUNIORS

For 7-12 year olds.

Chitalada’s Krav Maga Junior Group is intended for 7-12-year-olds who want to learn self-defense, body control, and enhance their social skills.

The training sessions are divided by age group, but juniors have the opportunity to choose their training group based on their skills and comfort level. The goal is for juniors to enjoy their training!

Children & youth learn to interact through physical activity and respecting others in the group.

Krav Maga is a self-defence system where juniors also learn to prevent conflict situations. In the first stage, they are taught to react to different grips, whether the attacker is their own size or larger and stronger. In addition to this, they learn general martial arts skills, movement, balance, and friendly competition.

Our Krav Maga Juniors coaches are trained and certified by the Finnish Krav Maga Association. They use the VERSO model to teach conflict resolution among peers. In addition to Krav Maga practitioners, our team includes healthcare professionals, sports professionals, certified personal development coaches, and, of course, parents.

Training Structure

The exercises begin with a warm-up, incorporating various games, obstacle courses, and preparing the body for training.

After a short water break, the next phase involves practicing the theme and techniques for the day. With self-defence techniques, coaches act as attackers, providing personal guidance to each trainee to ensure they learn the correct techniques. More experienced juniors practice together, engaging in slightly more challenging situations under their coach's guidance.

The final phase of the workout focuses on applying what has been learned and developing physical abilities. Our goal is to build a strong physical foundation for juniors. Therefore, we include a variety of body control exercises, bodyweight strength training, and even some "circus tricks." General skills exercises, such as different jumps, somersaults, and obstacle courses are part of every training session. We aim to develop endurance, speed, and strength comprehensively, tailored to each junior's age and developmental stage.

FAQ

  • We recommend acquiring training clothes at the beginning of the course. There are package deals available for clothing at the training facility.

Specific training equipment is not required; regular indoor workout attire is sufficient to start. Training is done barefoot, although you can choose to use specialized martial arts shoes if you prefer.

Once the first belt is achieved, the training uniform should include Krav Maga Association pants, the club's t-shirt, and a belt corresponding to your rank.

For green belts and higher levels, it is recommended to use shin guards and acquire a jacket for more dynamic training.

  • Chitalada follows the belt system for children and youth established by the Finnish Krav Maga Association, which is divided into six junior belt levels.

Belt tests are conducted periodically throughout the year, as there is demand from ready participants. Naturally, if a junior is ill or otherwise unable to participate in the belt test at the scheduled time, it will be arranged as soon as they are back at the training facility. Earning a belt requires diligent practice, but it's worth noting that there are usually very few failures in the tests. This is because discussions always take place with each junior and/or parent if the belt test is not yet appropriate.

  • Although there is no strict age limit for the adult Krav Maga group, the recommended age is around 13-15 years. However, the maturity and readiness of the trainee should be assessed individually since both the intensity of physical training and the themes of the exercises increase significantly in the adult group.
